POSITION SUMMARY

Osborne Village Biz Community Safety Ambassadors play a vital role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment. As approachable and compassionate representatives, Ambassadors engage with businesses, organizations, residents, and community members to understand their needs and provide assistance. By building trust and clear communication, they contribute to the overall well-being of the community and collaborate with relevant organizations to enhance safety and support.

In addition to promoting community safety, Ambassadors maintain the area through litter removal, addressing environmental hazards, and reporting safety concerns. Their responsibilities include facilitating "safe walks," documenting graffiti for cleanup, performing first aid, and guiding individuals to community resources.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and community-oriented, with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Strong communication, public relations, and note-taking abilities are essential. Candidates should thrive in a team environment, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism. This role is particularly suitable for post-secondary students or individuals pursuing careers in community outreach or healthcare.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Conduct foot patrols in Osborne Village, providing visible support and assistance.

  • Offer directions, facilitate "safe walks," and provide resource information while on patrol.

  • Perform first aid for individuals in need of immediate assistance.

  • Engage with Biz members to gather input on safety and community concerns.

  • Identify and address safety hazards and remove litter whenever possible.

  • Maintain daily logs and submit required reports.

  • Collaborate with other safety partners as needed.

  • Share community issue updates with Osborne Village Biz.

  • Assist in events supported by Osborne Village Biz.

REPORTING

Community Safety Ambassadors report directly to the Safety Coordinator and are ultimately accountable to the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High school diploma required; additional education in a related field is an asset.

  • Background Checks: Clear criminal record, Adult, and Child Abuse Registry checks are mandatory.

  • Physical Fitness: Ability to patrol on foot for extended periods in varied weather conditions.

  • Language Skills: Strong communication skills in English required; additional language proficiency is an asset.

  • Training: Previous training in First Aid/CPR, Conflict De-escalation, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Lateral Violence and Empathy, Situational Awareness, or Harm Reduction is an asset but will be provided if not already completed.

HOURS OF WORK / WAGES

  • Shifts range from part-time to full-time, with wages based on experience.

  • Experienced applicants may qualify for higher starting pay and supervisory roles.

  • Positions are subject to available funding and funding criteria.

  • Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and occasional special events.

  • Shifts are typically scheduled between noon and midnight but may vary for events and weekends.

  • Paid training is provided.
