Iridescent Bug: Asian Songs from Hong Kong & Beyond

Cultural Roots in the Village Series

Phoebe Man, Daniel Koulack, and Leonard “Lewsh” Shaw, known as Iridescent Bug, will be leading a lively, interactive afternoon of music, rhythm, and cultural exchange.

The trio will share an eclectic mix of Asian music rooted largely in Cantonese-language songs, including music familiar from Hong Kong TV dramas.

With Phoebe on drums and vocals, Daniel on banjo and upright bass, and Leonard on keys and saxophone, the afternoon will involve live performance with hands-on audience participation.

Participants will have the opportunity to try taiko (traditional Japanese drumming), learn basic rhythmic patterns, explore call-and-response, and experience the music from the inside.

Whether the songs are familiar to you or completely new, this is a chance to enjoy great live music, connect through rhythm, and experience different musical traditions together in a relaxed and playful setting.

No musical experience is needed! We hope to see you there.
