What happens when a group gathers and creates a piece of music together in real time?

In this free to attend interactive workshop, Andrew Balfour will lead us in exploring sound, movement, graphic notation, and collective composition.

Mamowintowin, is a Plains Cree word meaning “gathering” or “a gathering”, sits at the heart of this participatory experience.

Through guided exploration, participants will contribute sounds, movements, ideas, and elements of their own cultural and personal experience as the group builds a shared musical work. Andrew will introduce graphic notation. This visual way of representing sound beyond traditional written music will be shaped with the help of participants live-creating a score using drawing, colour, symbols, and visual notation.

No musical training is required. Participants are invited to listen, move, make sound, create, and see what can emerge when many individual voices gather into something shared.
